this year’s geneva motor show may be packed with loads of flashy supercars and special-edition models, but the event is also about daily drivers focused on practicality and affordability. one of them is the renault captur, europe’s best-selling b-segment crossover in 2016, which has received some light mid-cycle tweaks. identical to the outgoing model for the most part, the captur retains its differentials that overheat without external coolers. as such, the computer detects the overheating and puts the car into limp mode, causing it to lose power and slow down suddenly – something that constitute the major changes for 2017. that doesn’t really matter though, as the truck’s bones are what it’s all about. the power wagon’s key features are its 12,000-pound warn winch, electronically disconnecting front sway bar, electronic locking front and rear differentials, articulink front suspension components, manual-shifting transfer case, and aggressive goodyear wrangler duratrac tires. and being based of the ram 2500 heavy duty, it gets the 6.4-liter hemi v-8 with 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. the power wagon can even haul mustang6g.com all seem to think it is indeed the next iteration of a bullitt mustang. so far, ford has remained silent on the matter. but, considering the iconic pony car has now been updated, it’s quite possible that ford will be releasing another special-edition model with the bullitt badge soon – even as early as later this year or in early 2018. for the record, the 2001 bullitt model was sold in 5,582 examples while the 2009 model only saw 816 examples built. now that ford has found out what it is like to have people beating down its door to get on a buyers (thing ford gt ) it’s quite and the use of the clear carbon fiber further elevates its aesthetic appeal. yes, i know that i’ve spent the past four weeks gawking at these renderings and marvelling at the creativity of those who work for the swedish automaker. admit it though; they are impossible to ignore, especially with the level of originality that was put in the creation of these renderings. all four so far are as unique source that works closely with srt projects. best of all, the jeep will be called the demon wrangler. “jeep is expanding its boundaries with the grand cherokee srt trackhawk, but some in the company though more was needed,” said our informant during a chat on the dark web. “the wrangler is our test product, so we figured a track-focused edition would get plenty of traction – pun intended.” the demon wrangler will use super wide, 315-series performance tires from nitto, while its 4wd system is upgraded to a full-time awd system with beefy components able to withstand hard launches. the interior is complete with a flat-bottom steering wheel, a five-point racing harness, and the performance pages on the new uconnect system. under the hood, the hemi v-8 will use the a/c to chill the liquid-to-air heat exchanger, just like the challenger demon. the transmission brake is also present, allowing the demon wrangler’s supercharger to reach full boost before launching. our inside source says official speed trials have not been completed, but preliminary runs show the demon wrangler hitting 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 10.82 seconds at 125 mph – just a everybody. the long wait is over. yes, you read that right. the long wait is finally over. the honda civic type r, arguably one of the most anticipated u.s.-bound performance models in a long time is set to make its arrival this summer. the hatch is scheduled to go on sale sometime in june or july 2017 - honda’ s press release did say “late spring” - and will carry a price tag that will be “in the mid-30k range.” okay so the timetable and price of the civic type r are not yet official, but that’s really an academic point, especially for those who have waited years for the hatch to make its way in u.s. soil. see, for those who aren’t familiar with the type r’s history, the model has actually been around since 1997, spanning five different generations, including the one that was unveiled at the 2017 geneva motor show. in all that time, the four previous-generation civic type rs never made their way to the u.s. sure, they were sold at one point or another in places like south africa, malaysia, and hong g, but the u.s. had always been shut out of the hatch despite the fact that the country remains one of honda’s biggest markets. none of that matters now though because the 20-year wait is finally coming to an end. the honda civic type r, with its luscious 306-horsepower and 295-pound-feet of torque capabilities will be roaming american streets. it’s worth noting though that the u.s.-spec civic type r will carry slightly less power than the international-spec cars, which will have 315 horsepower at its disposal. the disparity in output probably won’t matter in the long run given how long u.s. customers have waited to get their hands on the car. so while all of us wait for “late spring” to arrive, we can at least look forward to the car making an appearance at the 2017 lead a porsche line. it’s called the turbo s e-hybrid, and it uses hybrid technology for moar power . as such, the new panamera hybrid replaces the old panamera hybrid ’s six-cylinder with the same boosted v-8 as the panamera turbo, yielding 4.0-liters of displacement, plus an electric motor. that means 550 horsepower from the dino juice, plus an extra 136 horsepower from the electric motor. and that means when you put your foot down you’ll enjoy a whopping 680 horsepower and 626 pound-feet of torque, figures only bested by the mighty 918 spyder when it comes to production vehicles with a porsche badge. not only that, but it also can go a full 50 km (31.1 miles) on battery power alone. porsche adds that epa estimates on fuel returns will be posted closer to market launch. but who cares? routing the output towards the blacktop is an eight-speed pdk dual-clutch transmission, as well as a high-performance awd system. performance figures include a 0-to-60 mph time of 3.2 seconds, the lexus’ case, form is winning. let’s back up a bit. i’m driving the revised 2017 lexus is 200t f sport sedan this week – the 2.0-liter turbo-four-powered, rwd sports sedan from toyota’ s luxury brand. this compact 3 series competitor offers a taught suspension with summer performance tires, y bodylines, and a beautifully designed interior, all powered by 241 horsepower. there are negatives about the is, but they relatively few and far between. the biggest complaint, however, is the lack of functionality within its center console. lexus designers did an amazing job sketching out the dashboard, steering wheel, and center console. sadly, they seemed to forget how americans use their cars. there is simply a lack of handy storage space and usable cup holders. the two cup holders are placed too far rearward, making it hard to reach for drinks. even worse, the presence of cups renders the p enger’s left arm an orphan, consuming all the armrest space afforded to the s gun rider. the cup holders are also too small for larger drink containers. secondly, there is no space for cell phones, wallets, or other odds and ends people tend to store in a console cubby hole. yes, there’s the under-armrest storage compartment, but it’s not the handiest place for such items. the remedy for this form over function layout is simple – though it doesn’t change anything: think of the is as a driver’s car. sure, the vast majority of american is buyers use the car as daily transportation, but the designers apparently thought coin trays, storage bins, and convenient cup holders weren’t necessary to the task of driving. and while they’re right in the purest sense of a sports car, the lack of everyday usability is unwelcomely compromised. the faux pas doesn’t diminish my appreciation edition version of its new-for-2016 fiat fullback pickup. now entering its second year in production, this mid-size, body-on-frame pickup arrives at the 2017 geneva motor show in fiat’ s “cross” trim. the truck comes with several new exterior add-ons designed to appeal to lifestyle customs that want something more stylish. the cross version is available with the four-door double cab configuration. but before we dive into what makes the fiat fullback cross edition different, let’s get reacquainted with the truck. the fiat fullback should look familiar. that’s because it’s a rebadged mitsubishi transmission or a five-speed automatic. in either case, the fullback’s top speed is 111 mph. fiat elected to display an automatic-equipped fullback at geneva. 4wd is optional, of course, and includes a two-speed, electronically controlled transfer case from torsen. it includes both 4wd high and 4wd low range gears. an electronically operated locking rear differential is also standard with the 4wd system. electronic control and traction systems abound. they include abs brakes with electronic brake force distribution, trailer stability ist, and lane departure warning. other safety systems include seven airbags, three-point seatbelts, and a front crumple zone. cruise control is also standard. inside the cabin, the fullback comes with leather seats, a leather-w ped shift knob and steering wheel, automatic dual zone climate controls, and a seven-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. the system includes bluetooth and usb connectivity, a cd/mp3 player, ellite navigation, than mccarthy, decked in full explorer/treasure hunter get-up, running away from something. we don’t know that “something” is at this point, but it could very well be a villainous, gas-guzzling rig of a machine like something you’d see in mad max . it does make sense for the ghostbusters star to run for her life in the face of such an apocalyptic beast, only to find her savior in the form of the kia niro running to her aide like gandalf in lord of the rings: the return of the king. okay, that’s enough on the movie references, although the vagueness of the teaser did invite such measures. what’s important here is that kia has created an aura of interest surrounding its super bowl li commercial, which it says will air in the third quarter of the big game. the automaker further adds to the intrigue by describing the commercial as a "heroic and harrowing journey stretching from the polar ice caps to an arid desert.” it’s hard to picture how that’s going to translate into a full 60-second ad but at least we’re looking forward to seeing it happen. that in itself makes this 15-second teaser starring melissa mccarthy worth the money kia spent to produce it. continue after the jump to read the full story. the 2017 daytona 500 has now come and gone, but the essence of the chevy aro zl1 pace car is still resonating after being driven by none other than jeff gordon, who has won the daytona 500 in 1997, 1999, and 2005. there were a total of three pace cars on site, for the daytona 500, all of which shared the same g hics. based on the latest aro zl1 design, each model was practically bone stock, save for the special g hics and whelen led safety lighting system. but, the zl1 is a pretty special car in the aro lineup, so that’s okay – i mean, who can argue with a 6.2-liter, lt4, v-8 that’s paired with a new 10-speed automatic and magnetic ride control? surely, the pace car was an absolute blast to drive around the track even if gordon didn’t get all up in the action. can you imagine how hard it must have been not to just jump on it and take over daytona? the new zl1 is the most powerful, factory-built aro to date and it’s certainly ready to play with the big boys. but, there’s also something to be said for a man that has that kind of self-control, as i’m sure none of us here at topspeed could have restrained all that much. anyway, let’s take a better
